Taoism has “Tao” as its core doctrine
The “Tao” as outlined in Taishang’s Tao Te Ching is the core doctrine of Taoism. The reason why Taoism is called “Taoism”, and why the “Seven Signs of the Cloud Book” takes “Dao De” as the first category, and why the “Taoist Teachings” also takes “Dao De Yi” as the first meaning of the first doctrine, is because Taoists want to take “Dao” as the core doctrine and the highest belief.
All these are because Taoists have to take “Tao” as their core doctrine and highest belief. That is why it is said in the Treatise on Taoism that Taoist priests should take “Tao” as their business.
The Way of the Supreme Being, in the faith of Taoism, is formless, colorless, tasteless, soundless, emotionless and faithless, and exists before the heaven and earth, and is not present in any world; it is present everywhere, and is the source of all tangible things in heaven and earth. This can not be said in tangible words, but in order to facilitate people to write down, strong name and for “Road”.
The Tao is the birth of all things in heaven and earth, through the invisible ancestor gas, and the ancestor gas is divided into yin and yang to achieve the achievement of all things. All things then take shape and grow naturally according to their respective qi. After the emergence of human life, the Tao gathered qi and became a god, educating people to understand the principles of the Tao, to value life, and to establish an outlook on life that conforms to the nature of the Tao.
“When the universe had not yet been opened up, the Tao changed into the First Heavenly Father.
After the opening of the universe and the creation of heaven and earth, it changed into the Heavenly Father of Ling Bao. In the process of accomplishing all things in the universe, it was transformed into the Taoist Heavenly Father, Taishang Laojun. After that, Taishang was incarnated throughout the ages, and was honored as the teacher of Taoism, and was incarnated as Laozi at the time of Yin Wuding, who wrote the Tao Te Ching, which is the source of Taoism. Therefore, after Taoism was founded, it honored Yuan Shi Tian Zun, Ling Bao Tian Zun, and Taishang Lao Jun as the highest deities to be worshipped. The belief in “Tao” is visualized and personified. Its core belief is “Tao”.
In the practice of Taoism, it is the righteousness of the Supreme Tao that is the foundation. Because the supreme “Tao” is not only the Creator, supreme and sacred, but also has the most worthy of people’s reverence and realization of the noble virtues, which is beneficial to people’s cultivation and belief in the Tao to establish a good outlook on life. “The Tao” creates all things, takes natural inaction as the law, lets all things grow naturally, and never takes credit for being the master of all things.
Do not ask for any reward, without a little selfish desire, and always maintain a quiet for this, soft for the use. And like water in the lower to benefit all things, and has the same chest as the sea, open-minded. With words indescribable noble virtues to achieve and nourish all things, so that they are eternal and everlasting, not born and not extinguished. Therefore, Taoism takes “Tao” as its doctrinal principle and teaches people to cultivate “Tao”-like virtues to help others. All the gods and goddesses worshipped by Taoism, such as the Heavenly Savior of Suffering and the Ancestral Heavenly Master, are worshipped by the world because they have the same virtues as the Tao or have attained the Tao through their own cultivation, thus becoming another image of the Tao’s personality.
