Catechesis is the fundamental doctrine of faith and practice
The ideology and culture of Taoism encompasses many aspects of Taoist history, classics, methods of practice, palace architecture, writings of people, the secrets of the gods and goddesses, and religious precepts and rituals.
However, Taoism, as a religion, is both a culture and has its own unique ideological system, a comprehensive and complete philosophical doctrine, and has established its own beliefs on the basis of this rich ideological system, so that the majority of Taoist priests have the goal of faith and practice.
That is to say, the ideological culture has a certain breadth, including all aspects of Taoism, and in this broad ideological culture, there is always a consistent core doctrine, that is, the essence or consistent spirit of Taoist ideology and culture, and there is a considerable stability and continuity in the Taoist beliefs, which is the doctrine of Taoism.
Like a large tree with a well-developed root system and many branches and leaves, the roots and trunk are the mainstay of the tree’s firmness and continuity of life and prosperity. The doctrines of Taoism are the mainstay of the continuation and development of Taoism’s lifeline. In Taoist faith and practice, all methods and rituals cannot deviate from the fundamental doctrine of the Catechism.
If our beliefs and practices deviate from this doctrine, they will be criticized by those who have knowledge of Taoism as being false and forgetful of their roots, and will lead their beliefs and practices astray.
