Huo Shan Nanyue Temple

Huo Shan Nanyue Temple, a famous Daoist mountain and historical site. Located within Mount Huo in Huoshan County, Anhui Province. Originally built during the Han Dynasty, it has been renovated by successive dynasties.

The existing structures were constructed during the Qing Dynasty and are of grand scale. The temple houses over twenty steles dating from the Han to the Qing Dynasties, among which the most valuable are the Tang Dynasty Pi Rixiu’s Nanhuang Mountain Ode Stele and the Ming Dynasty Jianwen Emperor’s Jianwen First Year (1399) Envoy’s Sacrificial Offering to Mount Huo Stele.

The temple is surrounded by walls on three sides, with ancient trees towering overhead, sheer cliffs rising steeply, and misty clouds drifting by. Near the temple are ancient sites such as Tianchi Pond, Longquan Pool, Yuejing Well, Fengdong Cave, Shichuangdong Cave, Baohu Cliff, Shixin Cliff, and Lingxiao Tree; Shichuangdong Cave is said to have been the hermitage of Zuo Ci from the late Han Dynasty.
